Ugh...

Hello World. I've decided to just keep running. If I'm going to join the Army, I may as well get used to running. I started doing Couch to 5k again and I just got my earphones in the mail so that was great. Running around with no music isn't as much fun in my opinion.

I only skipped two run segments. I know, I know. I shouldn't have skipped any, but holy shit. My legs were so weak I was afraid I was going to fall down. It was a good workout I think. Going to go make some eggs in a few minutes. Just wanted to let all my wonderful readers (ha) that I'm alive.

Insanity or Running?

Day 3 on Atkins:

So far it's not so bad. I'm sure I'm eating carbs that are hidden. Barbecue sauce on my chicken is probably terrible for me so I'll have to stop that, but compared to what I've been eating, I'm the best dieter ever. I had eggs and sausage for breakfast, and chicken for lunch. All I had snack-wise was some gum and sunflower seeds.

Now on to my workouts..
I did Insanity's Fit Test on Monday. It was bad. I'm very out of shape but I did it to my best ability. Damn Shaun T. I'd be sitting down, huffing and he's all "If you're sitting down you need to get up!" That asshole is in the best shape ever. Anyway.. here's my results.

Switch kicks: 65
Power Jacks: 30
Power Knees: 50
Power Jumps: 20
Globe Jumps: 0*
Suicide Jumps: 5
Push Up Jacks: 5
Low Plank Obliques: 10

*With the Globe jumps, I was just too tired. Add to that the fact that my room has barely any room and they're just not possible. I guess I could have just jumped left and right twice, but that's not what they were doing. Still, I'll have to do that next time if I'm not as tired.

I've been trying to decide if I should just keep running or just do Insanity. I did the first week of Insanity a month or so ago, but eventually stopped when I started eating like crap. I might just switch it up and do a day of Insanity, then do a day of running, etc. Or I might just stick to Insanity until I lose a bunch of weight and then start running. I'm sure running around with 280 pounds isn't gonna help my knees any.

Alright, I just got home from work so I'm gonna do another day of Insanity then relax.
I hope I survive..

First Day Out

So a little backstory might help a bit. Even if no one reads this, it'll be good for me to read later.

I'm 27 years old. I've been overweight since I was in 3rd grade. I've been wanting to join the Army for a while but something has always held me back, besides my weight. I've had girlfriends for years and just gotten complacent. I was happy to be working a crappy job cause I could come home to my girlfriend and just enjoy my time. Well I'm single now and not exactly happy.

Back before my ex-girlfriend, I took the ASVAB for the Army and scored a 92 out of a potential 99. I was told I could get pretty much any job I wanted except ones that need a clearance (I have some debt) and some that you need perfect vision. An ASVAB score is only good for a couple of years and I let that slide by without losing any weight. I'm tired of being fat, so I bought some new running shoes and started dieting (again) and running.

As of today I weigh 282 pounds. I'm 6'4" so I don't look ridiculous or anything but I do have a belly. Obviously I'm overweight, but I don't feel like I'm huge or anything. I work at the Charleston airport outside helping customers, so I'm constantly walking around. Not the most strenuous job ever but I'm not sitting at a desk either.

I went for a run today. It wasn't exactly a run. More like a walk/run. The neighborhood where I live is kind of shaped like a comb. One back street with lots of streets branching off of it. So I'd walk up one of the branch streets, then run back down it. Walk up the next one, walk back down, etc. I can't run for too long. But hopefully that will change with me doing it more and more.

I plan on running at least 5 times a week.
Along with running, I'm doing the Atkins diet. Please don't send me emails or comments about how bad it is for you. I enjoy the diet, and there's been tons of studies that show it's fine. It helps you lose a lot of weight, and just like ANY diet, if you get off of it and eat junk you're going to gain weight back.

Anyway, I guess I'll update this tomorrow.
Wish me luck.
